The WSOP is the most popular poker
tournament in the world. Thanks to satellite tournaments and local poker clubs,
players from all over the world converge yearly in Las Vegas to play not only
Texas Hold’em, but a whole slew of Poker games for serious money.
The World Series of Poker history goes back a long way though and has exploded in popularity over the
past few years. The championship pot hovered around 1 million dollars for years
and then, following the victory by Chris Moneymaker, hasn’t dipped below 5
million! Moneymaker was an unknown internet player who won the tournament back
in 2003. Each year the tournament seems to get bigger and bigger and even if the
overall participant numbers fluctuate, the number of viewers on TV and the
internet remain strong. Watching the tournament videos and youtube clips is a
great way to learn poker techniques as well, so keep an eye to your TV listings.
